  • APP in Practice

    Perins Community School

    Location: PASCAL 4 Date:Monday 12 March 2012 Time:15.30-16.30

    Course description

Intended Outcome: Provide attendees with a basic understanding of the elements of APP that can be applied to teaching methodology, record keeping and planning.

Assessing Pupil Progress (APP) is a structured approach to periodic assessment, enabling teachers to: track pupils’ progress over a key stage or longer; use diagnostic information about pupils’ strengths and weaknesses to improve teaching, learning and rates of pupils’ progress. Using APP materials, teachers can make more consistent level-related judgements in National Curriculum subjects. The APP approach improves the quality and reliability of teacher assessment and has proved to be robust, manageable and effective in practice. APP supports planning for progression in learning and helps teachers to develop their skills and judgements in assessing pupils’ progress. It involves generating evidence of progress through effective teaching and learning and then ‘stepping back’ periodically to review pupils’ achievement in relation to National Curriculum levels.

This session will discuss the theory behind APP and relate some examples of APP in Practice at Perins School.
