Working with Anger
King Alfred's A Specialist Sports College
Date:Tuesday 13 November 2012 Time:9.30am - 4.00pmCourse description
Working with angry young people can be difficult, nerve-wracking, intimidating, upsetting. This day workshop will not be about trying to manage young people’s anger away. Instead, it will explore the idea of anger as a vital, healthy emotion - as the expression of concern and resilience and as the protecting and disguising of other feelings. We will explore where our own and other people’s anger comes from, identifying some of the ways in which anger expresses itself in institutions, systems and in our working relationships. In particular, we will look at ways in which we respond to the expressed and unexpressed anger of young people. We will practise listening appropriately to anger and trying to understand its meanings in order to feel more comfortable with our own and other people’s.
